A day in the life of a Platts HGV driver

Here at Platts, a sizeable percentage of our 58-strong workforce are made up of our hard-working Transport Team. With 20 HGV drivers at present, we’re recruiting a further two due to business growth, and will be increasing our fleet this September.

If you’re a driver, you’ll know that not all driving jobs are the same. So what does driving for Platts look like?

With a mixture of jobs- collecting raw materials from suppliers, and delivering finished goods to our customers- mainly commercial farms- the role can be diverse. Platts supply throughout the UK and Ireland – all the way from the Orkney Isles, to Plymouth, Cork to Colchester – so our team are well versed in the UK and Irish roads- with the help of the modern TomTom of course!

We asked our team to share a bit about an average week as a Platts driver… here’s what we got!

Early morning start to the week from Platts HQ- Llay, Wrexham.

‘Tipping’ a skip load of bulk sawdust in a mucky shed. Some nosey cows checking out what’s going on…

Get to see some nice parts of the country…

Learning some Welsh…

Some farms are more spacious than others…

Scenic pit stop- time for a break before running back to the yard for the next job.

There’s always someone keeping an eye whilst unloading…

Collecting some more raw materials ready to be processed back at the factory.

A long way from home – a few days in Ireland is a nice change of scenery…

Treated to some ice cream from one of our customers – stashed in the freezer in the cab to take back home…

Some distractions whilst waiting to be unloaded on the farm…

Tipping a bulk load on a nice still day…

Assisting a customer unloading baled bedding…

Could be worse places to spend the night…

Loading up back in Wrexham ready for another day tomorrow…

Special ‘thank-you’ to our team of drivers for sharing their photos!
